Autumn verdict: October is the single best month to visit Australia. Spring conditions across the whole country, minimal crowds, and all the iconic experiences at their most accessible.

Bangkok — October/November
The rains ease in October. Bangkok in November is 30–33°C with low humidity — the temples (Wat Pho, Wat Arun, the Grand Palace) in dry season light are the standard by which all Bangkok visits are measured.
Phuket & Krabi — October/November
Andaman Sea side. October and November are transitional — occasional rain but generally excellent. The limestone karsts of Phang Nga Bay and the Railay peninsula beaches are at their most photogenic in November's clear light.
Koh Samui — December (not yet)
Avoid the Gulf coast islands in October–November — this is their rainy season. Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan are better from December through April.
Autumn verdict: November is the month. Chiang Mai and Bangkok in November are genuinely extraordinary — the finest version of northern Thailand and the capital available. Combine with Phuket or Krabi for the south.

Best months: December–April (dry), but November works Green Season EndingCosta Rica is different from the other two in one important respect: the conventional best time is December through April (the dry season), not autumn. September and October are the wettest months across most of the country. November, however, is the transition — the rains ease significantly, the waterfalls and rivers are at their most dramatic from the accumulated wet season water, and the country is genuinely lush and spectacular before the December–April dry season crowds arrive.
The case for November in Costa Rica is this: the wildlife is extraordinary year-round, the temperatures are 25–32°C regardless of season, and the November prices are 20–30% lower than December–January peak. The Osa Peninsula (Corcovado National Park — the most biodiverse place on earth per unit area) and the Monteverde Cloud Forest are both excellent in November. The Pacific coast (Manuel Antonio, Nosara, Santa Teresa) can still have afternoon rain showers in November but mornings are clear and the surf is good.
Monteverde Cloud Forest — November
The mist, the resplendent quetzal, the hanging bridges. November moisture keeps the cloud forest at its most otherworldly. The zip lines and canopy walks are fully operational.
Corcovado — November
Tapirs, scarlet macaws, jaguars (rarely seen, always possible), four species of monkey. The most biodiverse national park in the Western Hemisphere is accessible and uncrowded in November.
Arenal — November
The volcano, the thermal hot springs, the Río Celeste (its turquoise colour is a chemical reaction, not an algae — it happens year round). Arenal in November is dramatic and very green.
Pacific Coast — November
Manuel Antonio, Nosara, Santa Teresa. Surf is consistent, mornings are clear, wildlife is prolific. Better than October, not quite December — but excellent value and very quiet.
Autumn verdict: November is viable and offers the best value in Costa Rica's calendar. But if flexibility exists, December is the better month — the dry season begins and the country opens fully. For pure autumn travel, November works well for wildlife and adventure; avoid September and October.
Costa Rica in November works as a standalone 10-day trip (San José, Arenal, Monteverde, Manuel Antonio) or as a 2-week combination with a US stopover — Miami, New York, or Los Angeles en route.
