Is the private boat charter worth it?
The most consistently recommended optional extra on any Discovery Escapes Amalfi itinerary. The day from Sorrento — sea caves, Ravello from the water, Blue Grotto, Faraglioni at sunset — is described by the majority of travelers who do it as the finest single day of the entire trip. From approx €250/couple.
What is Ravello like?
Ravello is 350 metres above the Gulf of Salerno — a medieval hill town with two extraordinary gardens. The Villa Cimbrone's Terrace of Infinity, overlooking the Gulf, was described by Virginia Woolf as the most beautiful place she had ever seen. The Villa Rufolo hosts the Ravello Festival (July–September) — classical concerts on an open-air stage above the sea.
Is Positano overcrowded?
Positano is busy in July and August — the narrow beach and stairata lanes can feel very crowded. June and September are significantly more comfortable. At dawn before the day-tripper ferries arrive, the village has its own character entirely. Discovery Escapes builds Positano arrivals around this.
Can I stay in Positano rather than Sorrento?
Yes — cliff-side hotels above Positano are available on any Discovery Escapes Amalfi itinerary. They are more expensive than Sorrento hotels (from approx €200/night for a 4-star) and less connected for day trips, but the experience of waking up in Positano is extraordinary. Recommended for honeymooners and couples.
